CANON PowerShot SX40 HS Overview

The Canon PowerShot SX40 HS produces good quality images in fine detail with minimal noise level and rich yet natural color. It is able to shoot to 35x optical zoom with much improved and sharp output. This all-in-one compact camera comes with a 12.1 megapixel CMOS technology sensor. Highlight includes outstanding stabilization and 1080p 24fps video recording.

Compare to its older sister, the SX 30, the Canon PowerShotSX40 HS performs faster. Its built is smooth with a rubber wrapped front side. And with its size on the slightly small side of the standard SLR, it feels snug in the hand, although the screen in compromised to 2.7-inch. The camera features a slow motion movie effects as well as an eight-shot high speed burst mode.  Critique has pointed out the autofocus is slower than some. An optional manual focus is available.

CANON PowerShot SX40 HS Troubleshooting Procedures

  • What if the color and brightness of the images do not turn out as expected? (page 21 of the manual). The scene icon (see Camera User Guide) that appears on the screen may not match the actual scene, and you may not obtain the expected results. If this happens, try shooting in P mode (see Camera User Guide).
  • What if the screen is off even when the camera is turned on? (page 21 of the manual). The display is set to the viewfinder. Press the DISP. button several times to restores the display to the screen.
