The Volvo V50 is the station wagon version of the Volvo S40 small family car, produced by Volvo Cars, first introduced in 2003. The 2009 V50 is a 4-door, 5-passenger wagon, available in two trims, the 2.4i and the T5 AWD R-Design. The 2.4i is powered by a standard 2.4-liter, I5, 168-horsepower engine that produces 20-mpg in the city and 28-mpg on the highway. The T5 AWD R-Design is powered by a standard 2.5-liter, I5, 227-horsepower, turbo engine that produces 18-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. Both models come with a five-speed automatic Geartronic transmission. Safety features include electronic stability control, side-impact and side curtain airbags, and all-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.
